Flight of the Bumblebee

My kids with Grandpa & Grandma Jones

Have you ever heard Jeff Foxworthy talk about "doing the flight of the bumblebee"? That where , say, somebody you haven't seen in a while calls and says "I'm in the area and want to visit, see you in 5 minutes." Then you do the flight of the bumblebee...by this I mean cleaning up so fast that if there were music, that would be the tune. You are shoving stuff in closets and in rooms, closing doors and hoping they don't want a tour of your home. Ever been there? :)

Well, tonight was a flight of the bumblebee night for us. Not as bad as shoving stuff in closets but still as frantic feeling...for me at least. Blaine's parents called at 8:00 pm and said they were in town to see Blaine's sister's new baby (they are adopting a little girl who was born last week...another story in itself) and so anyway, his parents wanted to come visit after they stopped at the hospital to see the baby. Blaine is at work and I'm always uptight whenever anyone comes over and the house is messy. Luckily, earlier in the evening I'd gotten a burst of energy and picked up and vacuumed. So, just do the dishes and get kids in pj's. It wasn't too bad and the house doesn't even smell that "wet" smell it did yesterday...see yesterday's post.

My kids absolutely love both sets of grandparents and were very happy to see Grandma and Grandpa Jones. I'm glad they stopped by and also glad that I'd felt like cleaning a little earlier tonight so I wouldn't have to do "The Flight of the Bumblebee".

Small favors

My new best friend...for today anyway.

Thank Heaven for small favors. I'm trying to look at this in a positive light. So, this morning at 4:30 am, Ryan started waking up. I got up, gave him his pacifier and then I hear Hannah screaming for me. And by screaming, I mean she actually screams at the top of her lungs for somebody to come and get her up. So, I think I'm going to ignore her and just go get Ryan's bottle. I start down the hall and hear something...the sound of water, lots of it. It sounds like it is spraying from somewhere. I run into the kitchen and the entire kitchen is underwater as well as the laundry room and it is starting to eek into the dining area (carpeted). I run back down the hall and yell for Blaine to get up. He comes running out and shuts off the water. I take a second to survey the damage. The windows in our kitchen and dining area are all fogged over and I know there is water in the basement as well. Now both kids are screaming as well. Yea! Just what I hoped would happen at 4:30 in the am. We got both kids setted down and then set about the task of cleaning up. So, what happened is the tubing (pipe) for the hot water to the kitchen sink came undone (who knows how?) and thus flooded the house. I say thank Heaven fo small favors because (a) if the kids hadn't woke up, we wouldn't have heard the water, probably, until we got Garrett up for school. Our room is at the back of the house, down a LONG hallway and you can't really hear anything that is going on in the kitchen. AND (b) we have a downstairs kitchen with a large storage room next to it. It is directly below our upstairs kitchen. The water flooded straight down and went only on concrete floor...no carpet was wet downstairs. The water went into the storage room...came from above and below...and flooded the shelves on the left side of the room. We only had canned goods on that side, nothing that would be ruined. There is a lot of food down there that could have been ruined but wasn't because it was on the other side of the room. So, my wet-vac (carpet cleaner) is my new best friend today, along with the shop vac. :) The worst thing I think I'll have to deal with is a 2-year old who has been up since 4:30 am and won't go to sleep...CRANKY!
P.S. You won't see any pictures of me or Blaine cleaning up at 4 in the morning (in our robes)...it wasn't a pretty site!

Family Swim Night

Here is our family...freezing in the pool.

We went swimming the other night at the Idaho Falls Aquatic Center with Garrett and Hannah. (Ryan is too little so Beckie watched him from the upstairs viewing room.) Anyway, the pool was quite frigid. They keep the temperature at a chilly 84 degrees...which is just fine for swimming laps or doing aerobics. Needless to say it is not a pleasure pool. Garrett was having a great time going down the slide and having Blaine throw him up in the air and across the pool. Hannah was shivering the entire time and her lips were turning blue! I took both kids to the hot tub and Hannah instantly relaxed and started playing. I think our next swimming trip will be to a warmer pool like Green Canyon.

My babies are growing up

Garrett, Ryan, and Hannah all ready for church. Hannah is saying "cheese".

Look at my cute smiley baby! He is 6 weeks old yesterday.

We took Ryan to church last Sunday and I took some pictures of my kids all dressed up. I just think they are so cute and are getting so big. Ryan is 6 weeks old as of yesterday. He loves to just lay and kick and loves you to talk to him. He is becoming very smiley. I love my cute kids but they are growing up so fast. Hannah is a firecracker and her spunky personality is showing more and more. She is very independent but don't try to get her to do something she doesn't want to. She will let you know. Every day we dress her but within a few hours, she is running around in nothing but diaper and undershirt. And she is usually walking around in my high heels as well. Oh well, as long as she has grown out of this phase before she goes to school. Garrett is in 1st grade and is so smart. He is very good at math and his reading is getting better everyday. His favorite subject is still lunch or recess or P.E. Sounds like a boy to me!
